About Me

Meet Susan A. Ono, LMFT – Alameda-Based Therapist Specializing in Anxiety, OCD, and Trauma Recovery

Susan Ono, Psy.D. (she/her)

Welcome!

I am a clinical community psychologist who is passionate about supporting people in aligning with their values, honoring their inner wisdom, and moving toward greater ease, clarity, and connection.

As a second generation Japanese American born to immigrant parents, My path to healing has involved making sense of and healing from intergenerational trauma and loss, and navigating between two very different cultures - the one I experienced at home and the one I needed to master to survive and thrive in the world.

Growing up, mental health and emotions were not something spoken about and seeking support or going to therapy was only for “crazy people.” When one of my siblings had a psychotic episode after the sudden death of our father, it became clear we all needed to address our mental health needs and find a path to healing. My path was to become a psychologist and work in community settings with marginalized populations and approach healing and wellness from a holistic and integrated community mental health perspective.

I wanted to understand what leads to healing and wholeness, and recovery from loss, grief and trauma, after generations of silence and bearing with the pain. How can we embrace our truths, and find meaning, purpose and a sense of belonging to build a life that is well lived and well loved?

The path is as unique as each person’s story. I welcome you as you are, I see you as whole and complete and honor your strengths and your struggles. I am passionate about supporting your growth and coming into alignment with what matters most to you. Together, using culturally and trauma-informed and evidence-based methods, we will walk together on a path towards healing and values based living.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to bloom
